Stairtreads are designed to help prevent slips and falls on stairs. Allstate treads are made of 100% homogenous vulcanized rubber. Our treads are compression molded under 2000 lbs of pressure and vulcanized via a combination of heat and pressure. This assures that the treads do not shrink or delaminate.
– With Time the top oxidizes and becomes an even tighter grain making it the only floor that gets better with age.
– Vulcanized rubber is naturally anti-slip (not slip proof) and quite underfoot. The colors are through (homogeneous) and will never wear off.
– Allstate treads are made in the USA at our factory in Dalton, GA.

OSHA & Stairtreads:
OSHA standards, a standard stair is any fixed or permanent stairway, excluding alternating tread, ship, or spiral stairs. These stairs must maintain a minimum tread depth of 9.5 inches per OSHA 1910.25(c)(3), ensuring users’ safe and comfortable ascent and descent. OSHA stipulates that the height of risers must fall between 6 and 7.5 inches, the width of stairs should be at least 22 inches between vertical barriers, and the depth of treads should be at least 12 inches, with an allowable variation of 2 inches.

Rubber vs. Vinyl:
Resilient stairtreads (Rubber and vinyl) are described in ASTM F2169, Standard Specification for Resilient Stairtreads. The best choice are rubber stairtreads. Rubber is more durable, does not shrink, and has better slip resistance.

Allstate Rubber stairtreads are available in 100+ colors.

Depth:
The correct tread depth is vital for safety and ease of ascent and descent. Typically, it varies between 8 inches and 14 inches, which is pivotal in ensuring safe and comfortable stair use. It is important for the installer to measure the depth as stair builders will sometimes vary the depth of the tread.

Nosing:
Nosing, the protruding edge of treads, is designed to minimize slipping incidents and enhance grip on stairs. It contributes to the overall depth and safety. Different types of stair treads can be used depending on the nosing profile. Nosing can be round, such as wood stairs in a residence or pre-war building or square. Most commercial spaces are made with square noses. Newer commercial steps will be angled back toward the riser to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

VI (visually impaired) Stairtreads:
All Allstate stairtreads are available to meet California Title 24 standards. Title 24 requires a tread with a contrasting VI strip 2” wide, inserted into the treads 1” from the nose. The VI strip colors are Black, Safety yellow, glow in the dark. Other VI colors are available upon special order.

Allstate stairtreads come in 4 distinct styles:

  1. Brasilia™ is the classic circle pattern reinvented for the 21st Century. Low vibration and easier to maintain as there are no deep grooves for dirt to nest in. Brasilia has a matching tile.
  2. Curitiba™ is a non-directional pattern. The Curitiba appears as a solid smooth color when viewed from above but has a slight texture. This makes it easier to maintain and helps to hide scuffing and scratching. The Curitiba is a one piece tread and has a built in riser. Thus you can get any color we make in tile in the tread/riser combo.
  3. Kruger™ is the traditional diamond pattern stair tread. This is our most affordable tread and is the only tread also available in a round nose for old rounded wooden steps.
  4. VI Or Visually Impaired treads. All of our stairtreads are available as a VI tread. The VI treads have a 2” contrasting color abrasive strip 1” from the nose. The VI tread meets California Title 24 code.

Sizes/lengths:
36”, 42”, 48”, 54”, 60” + 72” for all square nose treads
Kruger round nose treads are available up to 60” lengths

Matching Tile System:
Brasilia & Curitiba both have a matching 24” x 24” tile system.
